Dern Good Books
When Dunn-Dern’s daughter was younger, Lisa walked into bookstores
expecting to see books depicting families that looked like hers.
Finding very few, she vowed to write one. The result: her first
children’s book, “Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow,” and the subsequent
books in the series. They represent not only Lisa’s family but also
the millions of other multicultural families here in the U.S. and
around the globe.

“Dr. Duncan Dog on Duty!” brings back the family – mother,
father, and little girl – from her first book, “Hair Today,
Gone Tomorrow,”.

Our favorite family has now added
Duncan, the family dog, who, after being rescued from a shelter,
visits sick children in the hospital every week.
Published in hard cover by Visikid
Books, it is beautifully illustrated by Andrea
Yomtob and has already received praise from Yolanda King,
daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King,
and from “Entertainment Tonight” host Mary Hart, a board member
of Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds
from the book will be donated to organizations that benefit
children and animals.
